BFA IN SCULPTURE

This is a 4 year program for students who want to become a professional sculptor. The course will starts from basics with the first year being foundation year & remaining three years as a specialization in sculpture. This course will cover all different type of styles, mediums and casting techniques. Like- Modeling, plaster, terracotta, pottery, cement, wood carving, stone carving, metal casting, fabrication etc.

CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture is a 4-year program  where first year is the common foundation year & the remaining 3 years are specialization in Sculpture. The course structure includes – –

Year 1
  • Fundamental of Art – This involves understanding the meaning of fundamentals of fine arts like line, balance, colors, compositions, form, space, etc. Elements of arts and principles of arts.
  • History of Art I –This involves study of Indian Art from Pre-historic to Buddha period. Rock painting, Egyptian art, Roman,Greek art and Mesopotamia.
  • Still Life & Nature Study – Study of various objects, forms & drapery in both pencil & color.
  • Composition – Study of figures, compositions & colors.
  • Applied Arts –This includes Calligraphy & Printing Techniques like lino cut and wood cut.
  • Sculpture – Making objects & compositions using clay.
  • Study of Master’s – This involve study of renowned artist work. Understanding their concept and techniques.
  • Landscape – This includes study of different aspects of landscape such as atmospheric perspective, light and shadow, natural elements and composition.
Year 2
  • History of Art II – This involves a study of Indian Art from Kushan to Early Medieval Period & Western Art of Early Christian & Byzantine Period.
  • Material & Method – Detailed study of different types of clay, tools, terracotta of different states in India. And also study of texture, armature and verity of treatments for different mediums.
  • Portrait – Learn to sculpt Portrait in clay from antique study.
  • Composition – Composition in clay and in cast / direct plaster, fiberglass, cement.
  • Wood Carving – Carving round and relief in wood with proper understanding of the character of wood and tools.
  • Relief – sculpt low and high relief including nature and animal figure.
  • Introduction to Digital Sculpting software like Zbrush, 3D Maya etc.
Year 3
  • History of Art III –This involves a study of Indian Art of Late medieval period, company school and Bengal school & western art of Gothic, Early and High Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo.
  • Material & Method – Detailed study of all type of fiber sculpture, different types of stones, marble and their tools. And also study of different techniques of mold making.
  • Portrait – Learn to sculpt Portrait in clay from live model.
  • Life Study – Detailed study of Human figure via making of torso, portrait. As well as sculpt full life figure in different medium.
  • Composition – It involves study of contemporary concepts in art, experimenting with figurative compositions in stone and metal.
  • Stone Carving – Carving of sandstone with an number of techniques.
  • Metal Casting – Flexible mold making and lost wax casting. Explore the traditional and contemporary metal casting process.
  • Fabrication – Explore direct technique of metal sculpture. Ex. welding etc.
Year 4
  • Aesthetics – It involves general principles of Arts, theories related to origin and creation of art, philosophy of Indian Art and Aesthetics of Indian thinkers like Bharat muni, Kumar Swami and Abhinav Gupta. Philosophy of western thinkers like Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Herbert Edward Read, Crochet, Tolstoy, Baumgarten, Kant and Hegel.
  • History of Art IV –This involves history of Indian sculpture folk and tribal art, Art centers, contemporary art & modern movement in western art from Impressionism to Op and Pop art.
  • Material & Method – Detailed study of all type of fiber sculpture, different types of stones, marble and their tools. And also study of different techniques of mold making.
  • Project Work – A short research dissertation has to be done on any art related topic.
  • Portrait – Learn to sculpt Portrait in clay from live model.
  • Life Study – Detailed study of Human figure via to sculpt full life figure from live model.
  • Composition – It involves study of contemporary concepts in art, experimenting with figurative compositions in stone and metal on advance level.
  • Specialization of medium – Any one of the following medium- wood, stone, terracotta, pottery, ceramic sculpture, metal etc.
  • Installation – Study of various permutations of installation art like performance, video, digital, sound, blurred boundaries between different mediums & understanding the site.
  • Art Business – It involves legal concepts related to art, authenticity of art, how to prepare portfolio, how to critique art, details about how to present work to a gallery and museum.

B. Students can apply for early admission by submitting their creative work (portfolio). Their work will be evaluated upon submission. If approved, the student will not have to give the ACAD Entrance Test & will be granted admission after personal interview. If the student’s work is not approved, he/she can still sit for the ACAD Entrance Test. Students can upload their portfolio & apply for early admission by clicking the button below.
